Data Visualisation
A dashboard is an interface, and most are designed as an inventory of available measures rather than as an answer to a question. The result is dense, ignored and quietly replaced by a spreadsheet.
We design around the decision: who is looking, what they will do next, and what would change their mind. For public-sector clients we also build to WCAG 2.1 AA, which constrains colour, contrast and interaction in ways worth designing for from the start.
Platforms we typically deliver this on
Scope of the service
Dashboard design
Decision-first design with hierarchy, defaults and drill paths that match how the audience actually works.
Accessible reporting
WCAG 2.1 AA compliant visualisation: contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader labelling and non-colour encoding.
Public-facing data products
Open data portals and public dashboards designed for a general audience and for scrutiny.
Executive reporting
Board and executive packs where the narrative and the numbers are generated from the same governed source.
Design systems for BI
Templates, colour and typography standards so reporting looks like one organisation.
Embedded analytics
Reporting embedded inside your own applications and portals with row-level security.
Where this is used
Representative engagements, described at the level our clients permit. Sector and shape are accurate; identifying detail is withheld.
A public performance dashboard
Service performance had to be published for a general audience and meet accessibility legislation. We designed for plain language and non-colour encoding, then tested with assistive technology.
Outcome — Published reporting that passes accessibility audit and reads clearly.
Ward-level operational displays
Displays needed to be readable at distance, on a wall, at a glance. Constraints drove a much simpler design than the original request.
Outcome — Information legible in the environment where it is actually used.
Executive reporting from a governed source
Board papers were assembled manually from several extracts. We rebuilt them against the semantic layer with commentary generated alongside the figures.
Outcome — Board pack produced from one governed source rather than reconciled by hand.
Before you get in touch
Do you handle accessibility compliance?
Yes. We build public-sector reporting to WCAG 2.1 AA and test with assistive technology rather than relying on automated checkers alone.
Can you work with our existing dashboards?
Often the fastest improvement is redesigning what exists rather than rebuilding. We start with a review and usage analysis.
Which tools do you build in?
Power BI and Tableau most often, plus Databricks dashboards and custom web-based visualisation where a product needs it.

Business Intelligence Consulting
BI programmes that rationalise what exists, agree what the measures mean, and give analysts self-service without abandoning governance.
